Once more, Bilbao has become the capital of mentoring, a tool that promotes the development of human talent and business success. On Thursday, 21 June, international experts in the field gathered in the Palacio Euskaduna for the Bilbao Mentoring Conference 2018. Participants included the Director of Sustainable Development of Aquarbe, Laura de Vega, who was one of the speakers at the 'Mentoring in the social and educational environment' round table.

During her speech, Laura de Vega shared her experiences in the Global Mentoring Walk Spain, in which she was a mentor with two other professionals from the SUEZ Group. This initiative, promoted by Vital Voices Global Partnership, took place in A Coruña on 12 May and brought together 70 women from all over Spain to promote empowerment and female leadership in the business sector.

De Vega stated that mentoring is a key factor for further progress in the field of sustainable development in business organizations, and she explained the SUEZ Group's main areas of work in terms of mentoring and sustainable development.

The University of Deusto's Digital Identity Director and mentor for InspiraSTEAM, Lorena Fernández, and the elite former sportsman, coach, and mentor for SingularMatch, Vicente Alamo, presented interesting ideas at the round table, which was chaired by Sara Gómez Martín, managing director of the Royal Academy of Engineering's Women and Engineering Project.

The 2018 edition was the third edition of this event, which was founded to raise the visibility of this powerful tool among entrepreneurs, companies, and agents in the business and institutional sector.

Mentoring consists of learning from the experience of another person, the mentor, who teaches, challenges, advises, guides and helps the mentee in their personal and professional development. Mentors invest time and energy, and, above all, provide knowledge to identify the mentee's goals, develop their skills, improve their performance, and advance their careers.
